Why You Should Watch Trading the Close with Tim Knight

By:Sage Anderson

While traders of every style and strategy can find useful information via tastylive, the network is by no means geared specifically toward pure practitioners of technical analysis.

Having said that, almost every trader in the industry uses technical analysis in some way, shape or form. That’s why tastylive features a highly experienced technical analyst on tastylive everyday. Trading the Close with Tim Knight airs every trading day from 2:15 - 2:30pmCST.

During the show, Tim Knight hand picks relevant charts from the trading universe and proceeds to walk viewers through recent action and potential future moves in the underlying securities. Tim also tries to highlight events on the horizon that may impact the market.

OK, so why does this matter?

Because, by referencing analyses of past price movement (volume), there is data to forecast future market direction. While we like to look at probabilities upon trade entry, knowing where relevant markets and securities are trading is a critical component of risk management.

A perfect example can be found by looking at the charts of mortgage-related stocks in early-to-mid 2007. At the outset of the financial crisis, many of these stocks served as the “canary in the coal mine” when they cratered well before the broader market. By looking at the behavior before major events like that, it’s easier to spot market trends and make an informed decision based on historical data.

Following a technical analyst (such as Tim Knight) at that time would have been immensely valuable as he/she likely would have highlighted these pertinent developments early on in the crisis.

Whether Tim's show leads me to a specific trading idea or just a signpost to monitor for the future, it always helps me establish better context on the markets and my portfolio.

We encourage you to tune in to Trading the Close with Tim Knight when your schedule allows.
